Jefferson’s Ferry Continues Streak of National Recognitions, Named One of Newsweek’s America’s Best Nursing Homes 2027

October 2, 2026

SOUTH SETAUKET, N.Y. (October 1, 2026) - Jefferson’s Ferry, Long Island’s first not-for-profit Life Plan Community, has been named one of Newsweek’s America’s Best Nursing Homes 2027, extending its series of Newsweek honors and a broader streak of national recognition spanning both its health care services and the Life Plan Community as a whole.  Newsweek’s America’s Best Nursing Homes 2027 ranking, developed in partnership with Statista, recognized 1,325 of the nation’s top nursing homes out of 14,693 analyzed, placing Jefferson’s Ferry among the top 9% of communities evaluated that met the rigorous criteria.

The recognition underscores the strength of Jefferson’s Ferry’s health care, rehabilitation and long-term care services within a broader Life Plan Community that provides a full continuum of care on one campus, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing Care, Short-Term Rehabilitation, Memory Care and on-site clinical services. That model allows residents to plan ahead and remain in one community as their needs evolve, providing peace of mind, continuity and long-term security for Long Island seniors and their families.

For the 2027 rankings, Newsweek and Statista evaluated nursing homes across four key areas: performance data from the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; peer recommendations gathered through a national survey of qualified nursing home professionals; accreditation data from The Joint Commission and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities; and Google reviews reflecting resident, family and visitor satisfaction.

To account for differences in facility size, the rankings are divided into three categories based on bed count: small, medium and large.  The rankings are intended to serve as a resource for families researching nursing home options, highlighting communities that demonstrate strong performance within their respective size categories.

“This recognition is especially meaningful because it reflects the quality of care and experience we work to provide residents every day,” said Anthony Comerford, Vice President of Health Services at Jefferson’s Ferry. “Excellent clinical care is an essential part of what we do, but our goal has always been broader. We want residents to continue living well, staying connected and maintaining the relationships, routines and quality of life that make Jefferson’s Ferry a true community.”

The 2027 honor follows an especially strong 2026 showing for Jefferson’s Ferry. In Newsweek’s America’s Best Nursing Homes 2026, Jefferson’s Ferry was ranked #1 in New York among facilities with 50 to 99 beds. Separately, the community was named #1 in New York State and #28 nationally in Newsweek’s 2026 America’s Best Continuing Care Retirement Communities rankings, placing Jefferson’s Ferry among the top 1.5% of roughly 1,900 continuing care retirement communities nationwide.

Jefferson’s Ferry was also recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a Best Nursing Home for 2026, earning a 5-out-of-5 Overall Rating and High Performing distinctions in both Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care. U.S. News evaluated nearly 15,000 facilities nationwide, and Jefferson’s Ferry’s dual High Performing designation was achieved by only a fraction of the 86 New York nursing homes that earned a perfect overall rating. In addition, Jefferson’s Ferry earned dual 2026 Customer Experience Award distinctions from Activated Insights for its Assisted Living community and Skilled Nursing services in categories focused on resident satisfaction, responsiveness and quality of care.

“These recognitions matter because they reflect the resident experience,” Comerford said. “Taken together, national rankings, benchmarks, customer experience and outcomes data tell a clear story about the quality and culture Jefferson’s Ferry maintains, and the employees and residents who continue to shape it.”

The recognition comes during Jefferson’s Ferry’s 25th anniversary year and as the community continues to invest in its campus, services and resident experience. Through its multi-million-dollar Journey Toward Renewal, Jefferson’s Ferry has added new Independent Living residences, opened The Grove Memory Support Neighborhood, enhanced dining, fitness, rehabilitation and Assisted Living spaces, and expanded wellness, cultural, educational and social programming. The next phase includes 12 additional Independent Living apartments, all of which were fully reserved prior to construction. For more information, visit www.jeffersonsferry.org.
