South Setauket, NY—August 2025– According to a study conducted by AARP in 2024, more than 40% of Long Island voters aged 40 and older report they are either currently caring for an aging loved one (11%) or have done so in the past (31%). Further, out of those responding, nearly eight in ten (77%) reported being emotionally stressed by their care responsibilities.
Recognizing the growing demand for support, especially among those caring for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, Jefferson’s Ferry Life Plan Community is proud to offer Respite Care Services for caregivers across Long Island. These services provide short-term stays for loved ones on Jefferson’s Ferry’s secure and welcoming campus, offering caregivers a much-needed opportunity to rest, travel, or attend to personal needs.
“Emotional stress and the inability to travel, work, or simply take a break are common realities for family caregivers on Long Island, especially as our aging population continues to grow,” said Bob Caulfield, President and CEO of Jefferson’s Ferry. “We understand the dedication, challenges, and rewards of caring for a loved one at home. Equally important is recognizing when caregivers need time to recharge—with peace of mind knowing their loved one is receiving attentive, compassionate care.”
