 Jefferson's Ferry's Vivian Viloria-Fisher Named Trustee of the Year

S. Setauket, NY…July, 2017 Jefferson's Ferry Life Plan Community Board Member Vivian Viloria-Fisher was recently recognized by LeadingAge NY as Trustee of the Year in a ceremony held at Jefferson's Ferry. LeadingAge NY's focus is on advocacy, education, and applied research to promote senior services programs that support the overall health and wellbeing of seniors. Daniel Heim, Executive Vice President of LeadingAge NY presented the award to Ms. Viloria-Fisher in front of an appreciative gathering of Jefferson's Ferry residents, staff and fellow members of the Jefferson's Ferry Board of Directors.

Jefferson's Ferry Board Chair George Rice offered congratulatory remarks as well, and fellow Board Member and local Councilwoman Valerie Cartright presented a proclamation from the Town of Brookhaven. "Vivian ensures that every board meeting is productive. She is thoroughly prepared to discuss every pending issue, with an attention to detail and understanding of the topics that is immeasurably helpful," said Mr. Rice. "Jefferson's Ferry is exceedingly grateful to have a Trustee of her dedication, integrity and professionalism on its Board."

Viloria-Fisher first became involved with Jefferson's Ferry as a Suffolk County Legislator, regularly attending events ranging from resident and employee recognition ceremonies to fundraisers and presentations. She engaged with as many residents and staff as possible during each visit and was an immediate, avid supporter of Jefferson's Ferry's open door policy, level of care Not sure what Level of care means here, innovative programs and overall high standards. Armed with considerable talent and insight attained through her diverse work experiences from high school teacher to three-term county legislator, Viloria-Fisher is a tireless advocate for aging services in general and Life Plan Communities in particular. Her ability to identify and connect with the right government officials has done much to forward the Jefferson's Ferry agenda.

"There was no question that I wanted to commit my experience and skills to the Jefferson's Ferry mission of promoting dignity, privacy, individuality, and independence for seniors through an environment that values personal fulfillment, caring relationships, and a positive aging experience," Ms. Viloria-Fisher remarked.

While in the Legislature, Viloria- Fisher's staunch advocacy for seniors included transportation, health and nutrition concerns. She secured funds and grants for individuals, home heating assurance programs, and senior centers. Today she co-chairs the Jefferson's Ferry Advocacy and Public Policy Program, traveling to Washington, D.C. annually to address Capitol Hill on issues important to Life Plan Communities. She also attends LeadingAge state and national conferences and presents the annual NYS Legislative Agenda to the residents.
